The Controls panel has two different sets of Region Layer controls:
These two sets of controls each use a different and sophisticated algorithm; don't assume that simple controls mean a simple process with poor results! Which method is more effective will depend on the style of your drawing. Try both sets of controls to see which is better.
The Default button resets the Region Layer controls to their default setting.
For the simple controls, simply choose between Clean, Standard, or Noisy, depending on how clean or dirty your drawing is.
To use the advanced controls, click on the Advanced button. We recommend you then click on the Defaults button, to set the controls to their default values. Adjust the Line Pickup value so there are region boundary lines wherever there are drawn lines in the Trace Layer. Finally, if there are any unwanted extra regions, reduce the Line Growing value to inhibit them. (These extra regions sometimes appear when drawn lines are close together, and the Image Processor tries to create a boundary between them. You can see this best if you have the Trace Layer displayed as well as the Region Layer.)
